HERMETIC
Pipe Penetrations
The innovative HERMETIC System allows the making of
safe, fast and economic penetrations for pipes
through watertight and fire-resisting divisions on
board of ships and offshore structures.
The HERMETIC penetrations have successfully passed
the Standard Fire Test to class A-60 prescribed by
IMO A.754 (18) and a hydrostatic pressure test at 10
bars.
The system is suitable for any kind of metallic pipe
from 14 mm up to 273 mm outside diameter.
Penetrations are mounted, directly, on to the
pipeline. It is therefore not necessary to fabricate
separately the conventional penetrations, consisting
of pipe spools, which are to be welded to the
structure and coupled on both ends to the pipeline.
HERMETIC Description
HERMETIC penetrations consist of two metallic plates,
which have a hole in the centre for the insertion of
the pipe. Plate 03 is equipped with an o-ring 08,
which makes the water seal in conjunction with the
pipe. A flat gasket, against the penetrated
structure, ensures its watertight integrity. An
internal gasket of intumescent material expands,
when affected by fire, sealing any gaps and making
the penetrations fireproof. For the installation,
the pipe is inserted into the two plates, one on
each side of the penetrated structure. The plates
are then connected together by bolts, which pass
through the same hole cutt for the pipe, making an
assembly strong and absolutely hermetic. The
description given clearly shows the advantages of
HERMETIC penetrations in comparison with existing
techniques:
Shorter installation time on board.
(A conventional penetration requires the
installation to have a welded outer sleeve or an
intermediate flange on both sides of the structure
and have its ends coupled to the pipeline. The
HERMETIC penetration only requires the assembly of
the two plates and tightening of the bolts in order
to compress the o-ring.)
• Elimination of all problems caused by the welding
process (deformation of structures, etc.)
• Better aesthetic appearance of the quality of the
product.
• The pipe in the penetration area is not welded and
therefore it maintains its mechanical
characteristics and corrosion resistance.
• Simplified material management and higher
flexibility in the use of the product.
• Reduction of final costs. |
